The deck level swimming pool which is also known as a perimeter overflow or zero depth pool is the newest hot design style in the swimming pool industry. The deck level pool has received its name from the fact that the level of water is the same as the level of surrounding pool deck. This creates the illusion of a floating plane of water at patio level. These pools can look larger than they actually are since they tend to read as a very clean flat surface. This type of pool design also makes the pool look more modern, so it also goes well with clean contemporary buildings that tend to have very clean lines and fewer transitional plains.
The deck level pool has excellent circulations within the pool, and the quality of filtration achieved by deck level swimming pool filtration systems is far superior to other conventional systems as the skimmers are replaced by an overflow channel through which water overflows constantly into a surge tank, from where it is pumped back into the circulation system.
The over flow channel at the perimeter of the pool can be covered in many ways. The conventional method, and still popular, is to use a grating system which can be removed for cleaning. For modern effect stainless steel grating works well, and if you have a traditional setting we can create custom stone grating that will match the pool surround. In modern deck level pools, we sometimes also use a thin continuous slot around the pool that makes the channel very discreet and offers a very minimalist look. The stone used for making the slot can be matched to the pool deck making the transition from pool to the surrounding surface very clean yet dramatic.
Since the water level in a deck level pool is the same as the pool surround, we need to construct a surge tank to accept the water displaced by a bather entering the pool. Due to this extra structure and also extra detailing required for the overflow channel and associated gratings, deck level swimming pools are more expensive than typical pools, but are well worth the price.
Automatic covers or moving floor systems can also be added to these pools if budget is less of an issue than aesthetics. We also offer in floor cover systems for these types of pools which although expensive work extremely well in this application. A custom lighting system using pinpoint lights or a hidden in wall track can be integrated into pool for a truly unique design.
These pools should be built by only the most elite pool contractors. Since these pools require such incredible attention to detail, materials selection, and hydraulic design there are very few companies that fully understand all the issues associated with them. Since the majority of the pool industry is made of contractors who generally use subcontractors to do most of their work these pools are just beyond the abilities of their skill sets. It is very important that every trade be closely controlled and every detail be meticulously constructed. Edges that are only slightly out of level can cause uneven flow over the edges and ruin the desired effect.
